What a busy week we've had!
We enjoyed looking at a variety of creatures within a spooky theme - the children were much more brave than the adults. We looked at snakes, spiders, a tortoise, a gecko and an owl.
We have been reading the book Going on a Ghost Hunt for the past couple of weeks and this week we visited Summerhill to look for ghosts and other creatures from the book within the trees. We played some games and then made our own magical wand whilst we were there. Within class we've been able to remember the repeated phrases from the story, sequence the story, label the characters and independently spell in relation to the book.
On Friday we came to school dressed in an assortment of Halloween costumes. We explored a variety of sensory activities related to Halloween and we made our own spider crispy cakes.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been looking at the physical features of a local village – as part of this work we have visited Hart, Elwick and Dalton Piercy. We've explored the parks, the village shop, the community centre, the church and the pub if they have one.
This week we started looking at the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah - we created our own Shofar horns to blow to indicate that the special time had begun. We then enjoyed eating apples dipped in honey - the food eaten is sweet to show that Jewish people hope the new year will be sweet.
Every week for PE we join with Shark Class to enjoy a range of activities. This week we have been concentrating on kicking a ball.
This week in Maths we looked at how to decide if items belonged together and could make a 'set'.
We enjoyed our first couple of days back at school. We practised our handwriting, explored soft play and enjoyed time with our friends outside.
